Hey guys and gals, its Tiffany coming at you with Vol 2 of our “Music From Around the World” monthly feature. This month we decided to make a stop in the lovely country of Portugal and showcase the very talented group of guys from the group Moonspell.

Moonspell is a five-piece Dark Metal band hailing from Lisbon, Portugal. Originally founded in 1992 by Fernando Ribeiro (vocals) and Miguel Gaspar (drums), the group has released a total of ten studio albums under four different record labels. The band is currently sitting pretty with current label Napalm Records and are due to release “1755“, the eleventh studio album, sometime this year. The band is currently on pre-production with Jon Phipps orchestralmetal.com at their home studios (Inferno) in Portugal and the album will be recorded in Portuguese.

Fernando (lead singer) explains in a recent Facebook post:

“We fell in love with the concept and made perfect sense to sing it in our national language, Portuguese. I guess we were just waiting for the right opportunity to work on such an album. Musically it will be heavier than Extinct. It will be earthshaking but also very detailed with orchestrations and percussion as we want people to relive the Lisbon of the 18th century. Singing it in Portuguese, allowed me to find a different expression as a vocalist and my job is to be the survivor of the Earthquake, roaming the ruins and telling you all about it.”

Now, as a connoisseur of music, I sort of accidentally stumbled on the guys of Moonspell when sharing musical tastes with a good friend and fellow nerd friend of mine from MMOHUTS  (Thank You, Jason!!). It so happened that Moonspell happened to be label mates with one of the music video links that I was given. I have to say, to hear a group that could be considered a mix of Type-O Negative and Cold with dashes of All That Remains elements that really blew me away. You honestly will have to take a listen to them yourself to really grasp what I am talking about.

The guys definitely gained a fan out of me immediately after my first listen to the song “Breathe” which you can check out in the video below!
